Cape Breton Coffee Adventures — and the Candle They Inspire

Cape Breton Coffee Adventures — and the Candle They Inspire

There’s something about coffee in Cape Breton that just hits differently. Maybe it’s the salty air rolling off the coast, maybe it’s the winding drives that make every café feel like a destination — or maybe it’s the smell of wild Nova Scotia blueberries being baked into muffins and pastries paired with freshly brewed coffee.

I’ve spent more than a few mornings (and road trips) chasing down my favorite spots, and over time, three have become my go-to stops:

If you know, you know. The Dancing Goat is legendary — the kind of café that makes you plan your entire drive around stopping in. There’s a buzz in the air (and not just from the caffeine). Their coffee is smooth, rich, and always spot-on. I can never leave without something from the bakery case — one of those pastries that somehow disappear before I’ve even hit the beach.

This place is pure magic. A dreamy location where a café meets a gift shop, it feels like you’ve stepped into a postcard. The coffee is exceptional, but it’s the atmosphere that really gets you — cozy, welcoming, and full of sweet treasures to browse while you sip. It’s the kind of spot you don’t just visit; you linger, because it’s too special to rush.

Baddeck has its own kind of charm, and tucked inside The Highwheeler you’ll find Village People Coffee Roasters, brothers - Nick and Americo, roasting beans that are every bit as good as the scenery outside. I remember the first time I tried their coffee — smooth, complex, and unique. In fact, our Cape Breton Coffee Shop soy candle was inspired by this local to Cape Breton coffee company!

One year Village People Coffee legends Nick and Americo were out visiting us in store and they brought along their Christmas blend, which was a lovely blueberry coffee flavour. It was one of the best coffee blends I have had and that is what inspired our Cape Breton Coffee Shop candle. Because blueberries and really good coffee are definitely iconic here on Cape Breton Island.

Love wild Nova Scotia blueberries as much as we do? Well, we have a soy candle that smells like a Cape Breton coffee shop at the height of blueberry season, you should probably try it. Feel free to use the code: BLUEBERRY to enjoy a lil discount on our very special Cape Breton Coffee Shop soy candle, made in house at Kelp House in Louisbourg.
